Arya Samaj Mandir in Haridwar The original list of 28 rules and regulations drafted by Dayanand for the Rajkot Arya Samaj and used for the Bombay Arya Samaj were deemed to be too unwieldy. Therefore, it was proposed that the principles should be reduced and simplified, while the bylaws should be removed to a separate document. Everyone present, including Swami Dayanand, agreed, and the 10 Principles of the Arya Samaj as they are known around the world today came into existence.
All subsequently established branches of the Arya Samaj have been founded upon the ten principles. However, each new branch of the Society has a degree of freedom in determining the exact by laws under which it shall operate. Everyone who wishes to become a member of the Society must agree to uphold these principles in their entirety. However, nothing beyond these 10 Principles has any binding force on any member of the Arya Samaj. For this reason, the early Samaj proved to be attractive to individuals belonging to various religious communities, and enjoyed a notable degree of converts from segments of the Hindu, Sikh, Christian and Muslim populations of Indian society.
Arya Samaj is a group of Arya people who work for the betterment of human society on the basis of Truth (Satya). The aim of Arya Samaj is to spread great Vedic Knowledge in every part of the world as the Vedas are the scriptures of all true knowledge. Below mentioned is the principles/rules and regulations of Arya Samaj.
1. God is the efficient cause of all true (Satya) knowledge and all that is known through knowledge.
2. God is existent, intelligent and blissful. He is formless, omniscient, just, merciful, unborn, endless, unchangeable, beginning-less, unequalled, the support of all, the master of all, omnipresent, immanent, un-aging, immortal, fearless, eternal, and holy, and the maker of all. He alone is worthy of being worshipped.
3. The Vedas are the scriptures of all true (Satya) knowledge. It is the paramount duty of all Aryas to read them, teach them, recite them and to hear them being read.
4. One should always be ready to accept truth (Satya) and renounce untruth.
5. All acts should be performed in accordance with Dharm that is, after deliberating what is right and wrong.
6. The prime object of the Arya Samaj is to do good to the world, that is, to promote physical, spiritual and social good of everyone.
7. Our conduct towards all should be guided by love, righteousness and justice.
8. We should dispel ignorance and promote knowledge.
9. No one should be content with promoting his/her good only: on the contrary, one should look for his/her good in promoting good of all.
10. One should regard oneself under restriction to follow the rules of society calculated to promote the well being of all, while in following the rules of individual welfare all should be free.
The Marriage Cermony starts in an Arya Samaj Mandir in Haridwar hall with the exchange of garlands between the bride and the groom. She gives him a pitcher of water with which he washes his feet, hands and lastly face, showing how a good wife should welcome her husband. Next the bride puts a mixture of curd, ghee and honey, an Ayurvedic medicine for any imbalances in the body, into the groom’s cupped hands and he scatters it in all directions and eats the remaining mixture, the ritual being known as “Madhupark se satkar.” This rite highlights the duties of a wife and a husband, how the wife should feed and nurture and the husband should provide for their family.
